Innovation is not...
There are many different interpretations of innovation and definition can be a tricky business. For the purposes of the ANUBIS project we have chosen to view innovation as it relates to business rather than just tools or technology. The interest of the project is in how ICT can be used in innovative ways to promote competitiveness and generate wealth.
...new ideas
Ideas are great - new ideas are even better. But how many ideas in your organisation actually survived as far as implementation and, better still, which ones generated any returns?
...only about technology
People and processes are key. Throwing technology at a problem without proper thought will not get you very far.
...responsibility of the R&D department only
Like customer service, innovation is business-critical and is the responsibility of everyone. There is no magic in innovation. Give people on the field a chance to contribute their ideas - you'll be inundated with them! Every individual can be creative if the appropriate environment is in place.
...just about new products
Innovative thinking can be applied to pretty much any area in the organisation, and the resulting innovations can include not only new products, but general improvements.
...an accidental event, emerging by chance
Would you really like to think that something so crucial to your business is out of your control?
